Walk in Stockholm

Södermalm

Södermalm is surrounded by water on all sides. On the picture below you see Tantolunden where our walk starts.

Tantolunden at Södermalm

You can come here by underground to the station of Hornstull. It takes you 5-10 minutes to walk down to the water.

Our walk in Södermalm

Our walk starts at Tantolunden by the water in the southwest of Södermalm (yellow circle) and goes all the way to Norra Hammarbyhamnen (blue circle). When you reach the water you turn left and a fantastiv walk starts along the water. The walk takes about 1½ hours, but you will sure want to spend more time in making nice stops during the walk.

Ideas for the walk in Södermalm

We want you to discover your own favourites, but we will give you some ideas about the walk - things that we appreciate a lot.

At the beginning of your walk, you will pass through the beautiful Tantolunden which is one of the largest park areas in Stockholm. A beautiful day you will find a lot of people here, people living in Stockholm and tourists.

If it is summer and you would appreciate having a bath you will find a small beach in the beginning of the walk.

In Tantolunden you will find small cottages and gardens on the slope. Here people have cultivated since 1915 in order to offer a living and green city.

Our walk continues along Årstaviken. What could be more beautiful than this?

After about one hour's walk you will find Årstavikens Segelsällskap. We recommend a stop at the café "Skrovet".

Along the way you will see Eriksdalsbadet which is one of Stockholm's largest and most modern public baths. There is an indoor bath, and in summertime also a temperate outdoor one.

Hammarbyslussen is a lock between Årstaviken which is part of the lake Mälaren and Hammarby sjö that is part of the Baltic Sea.

The walk continues along the North side of Hammarbyhamnen. A contrast in the view is the exotic restaurant "Thaiboat."
